Back to the Future-inspired truck heads to auction

A 38-year-old Toyota pickup would normally not be evaluated nearly as high as $80,000, but this one has been painstakingly modified to resemble the iconic ride from Back to the Future.

As we all know, the DeLorean DMC-12 played the main role in that movie saga. However, Marty McFly’s dream ride was a 1985 Toyota SR5, which received precious little screen time but nonetheless became popular among the movie fans. Numerous replicas followed, and the creator of this particular one managed to persuade the main cast of the movie to leave their autographs on the dashboard.

The jet-black Toyota Pickup has matching wheels, a silver lip, a bull bar at the front and auxiliary lights just like in the movie. It even packs a hoverboard in the bed and has “OUTATIME” for the number plate.

A look inside the engine bay reveals a thoroughly restored stock 2.4-liter inline-four mill normally rated at 106 PS (105 hp / 78 kW) and 185 Nm (136 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is five-speed manual, and the undercarriage appears to be in pristine condition with barely any use marks on it.

Mecum will be auctioning the replica off in Indianapolis in May, with the estimates averaging at the abovementioned $80,000.
