Video: 1,100-HP Toyota A90 Supra sets quarter-mile record

When Toyota unveiled its FT-1 Concept, many fans were ecstatic, and few could predict that the production car would turn out lackluster in comparison. Well, tuners fixed it, as usual!

This A90 Supra could very well be the world’s fastest. Coming in at just 1,490 kilograms (3,285 lbs), it sports a carbon body kit and an interior striped clean of non-essential equipment. The main highlight, however, comes in the form of a powertrain boosted to deliver 1,100 PS (1,085 hp / 810 kW) and 1,234 Nm (910 lb-ft) of torque. This is three times the power and twice the torque of the stock car!

Mods included new pistons, tie-rods, sealing gaskets and a plethora of other components. Extreme Turbo Systems is responsible for most of the boost with its Precision 6870 turbo kit. There is even a nitrous oxide system installed, although the OEM eight-speed automatic transmission makes do with only minor mods.

Watch the video to witness the Supra Mk5 set a world record by doing a quarter-mile run in 8.78 seconds and another run where it gets to 251 km/h (156 miles per hour) at the finish line.
