Video: Old milk van becomes the world’s unlikeliest drag strip weapon

The Divco 374 rolled off the assembly line in the 1950s as a mundane milk truck, but a father and son from Illinois bought it and thought it would make a decent quarter-mile sprinter.

If you are familiar with the term ‘rat look’, you are probably expecting us to say that all the rust and other defects on the truck body are artificial and just there for show. Surprisingly, they are not. The tuners deliberately left the exterior in its rundown state, even leaving the milk company’s trademark livery on the sides as is.

Instead, they focused on upgrading the tech, fabricating a new frame and rear suspension and transplanting the front suspension from the Chevrolet 95 pickup. The cabin received a couple of Dodge Caravan seats, parquet flooring, and an audio system with a subwoofer.

A glimpse under the hood reveals a monstrous twin-turbocharged engine pumping out 815 PS (804 hp / 600 kW). At the quarter-mile track, the truck usually hits 183 km/h (114 mph) at the finish line.
