The European Patent Office has processed a trademark claim from Volkswagen for the name “e-Thing”. This may or may not denote the production version of the ID.Buggy Concept (see video).
The unusual show car stylized after 1960s-era buggies comes based on the modern MEB architecture also used by the ID.3 and ID.4 models.
The roofless vehicle sports a carbon-fiber body, a 204-PS (150-kW) electric motor and rear wheel drive. Its 62-kWh battery reportedly gives it 250 km (155 miles) of range.
In turn, the name “e-Thing” is a reference to the Volkswagen Type 181 (see photos), a car that used to be in production from 1968 through 1983. It was known under its other name, “The Thing”, in the United States.
