VW ID. Cross EV presents main specs

The entry-level electric CUV known as the Volkswagen ID. Cross should go on sale in Europe this fall. In the meantime, the company revealed its expected starting price (€28,000) and some technical specifications.

Customers will be choosing from three available e-motors capable of 116, 135 and 211 metric horsepower (114, 133 and 208 mechanical hp; 85, 100 and 155 kW, respectively). All three variants are strictly front-wheel-drive with no AWD option on the list.

For the battery, the choice is between a smaller 37-kWh pack capable of 90kW charging and a larger 52-kWh pack offering faster 105kW charging. Volkswagen reckons that this larger pack should be enough for 420 km (261 miles) of range in an urban environment.

The exterior of the ID. Cross resembles its conceptual namesake from last fall. It features a rugged plastic body kit, a pronounced rear spoiler and unusual c-pillars with seemingly fake vents. It’s marginally smaller than the concept at 4,152 mm (162.2 inches) long, 1,794 mm (70.1 inches) wide and 1,581 mm (61.8 inches) tall with 2,601 mm (101.6 inches) between the axles. The OEM wheels are up to 20 inches large, and while the trunk is rather modest at 475 liters (16.77 cubic feet), it’s accompanied by a 22-liter frunk.

Inside, VW promises us plenty of legroom in both rows and large touchscreens accompanied by physical buttons for those who’d rather have some tactile feedback on their inputs while driving. That surely sounds nice, but actual photos remain to be revealed.
