VW Atlas II shows up ahead of premiere

Volkswagen has confirmed the debut of the second-generation Atlas SUV at the New York International Auto Show in April (NYIAS-2026). In the meantime, the company has published some pics of the updated seven-seater.

Although the bright camo doesn’t reveal much, it’s already clear that the new Atlas shares the MQB Evo platform with the Volkswagen Teramont Pro for China. It also has the same bumpers and body outlines as the China-spec Teramont, although the headlights and taillights are different. No interior photos exist thus far, so it’s too early to discuss the trim.

As for the powertrains, we don’t expect any big news in this department. The new Atlas will most likely continue to utilize its standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 273 PS (269 hp / 201 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. Same goes for its eight-speed automatic transmission and drive options (FWD and on-demand AWD).

Although the first generation of the Atlas can be currently purchased from $40,785 with the destination fee included, the new SUV will likely pack a considerable premium.

Earlier rumors suggested that Volkswagen intended to unveil the five-seat Atlas Cross Sport along with the main Atlas model at the NYIAS, but that one hasn’t even been properly announced yet.
