VW unveils Golf-based Aurora, FighteR concept cars at the GTI-Treffen

Every year since 2008, Volkswagen AG has been attending the GTI special event in Austria with concept cars designed by those of its students whom it elects to become part of the Volkswagen team. Meeting on the bank of the lake Wörthersee, young automobile engineers and designers brought two concept cars along this time around: the Golf GTI Aurora and the FighteR.

According to its creators, electronic tech is the main feature of the Aurora build. The car has two displays on its center console that display real-time performance data gathered from various systems and components. Rear passengers may now take advantage of special touch-enabled tablet-like screens. Using one of these, you can view the information about the current trip, access the main infotainment system interface, and adjust the volume of the 3,500W multi-channel speaker system.

The Aurora comes powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged V4 engine rated at 380 hp (283 kilowatts), which comes mated to a seven-speed DSG box.

The other concept, called the Golf Estate R 4Motion FighteR, will actually participate in the upcoming racing event at Sachsenring as a safety car. To that end, it comes equipped with roof-mounted auxiliary headlights and a strobe light built into the front grille. Powering the one-off build is a turbocharged engine capable of 400 hp (298 kW), partnered with the same 7-speed DSG transmission and AWD.

The cabin of the FighteR sports a leather/Alcantara trim combo with contrast stitching. As far as tech is concerned, the safety car has a 360-degree view camera set mounted on its roof.
