Say farewell to VW up!, as it is gone for good

Production of the Volkswagen up! city car has officially ceased in Slovakia, marking the end of its 12-year-liong history. The company says there will be no direct successor, but the upcoming ID.1 EV could serve as a substitute of sorts.

In its most basic form, the up! was equipped with a 1.0-liter petrol engine rated at 90 PS (89 hp / 66 kW). It cost from €14,555 in Europe. Its all-electric twin, the e-up!, produced a superior 115 PS (113 hp / 86 kW) and could be obtained from €20,330.

According to JATO Dynamics, the sales of the model in Europe in January-August 2023 amounted to 23,007 units, an 18% decline compared to the same period a year ago.

With the now-permanent departure of the up!, the Volkswagen Polo is the company’s de-facto cheapest city car at €21,590.
