AC Cobra spawns a hardtop version

AC Cars, the company behind the modern incarnation of the legendary AC Cobra, has just unveiled a special edition of the car – the hard-roof GT Coupe. It is advertised as a more powerful, faster alternative to the roadster and is slated to go on sale from £325,000.

Like the Cobra Roadster it is based upon, the GT Coupe features an aluminum frame with carbon-fiber bodywork on top. Whether the roof is a fixed structural component remains to be clarified, however. On the outside, the car looks very similar to its topless counterpart but sports a new, low-drag rear end design. Among other things, this design is supposed to let it accelerate beyond what the roadster is capable of.

In its entry-level variant, the GT Coupe will ship with a V8 under the hood rated at either 456 PS (450 hp / 335 kW) or 730 PS (720 hp / 537 kW). There will also be a limited Clubsport Edition with the engine boosted to 810 PS (800 hp / 596 kW). Only 99 Clubsport cars will be made.

The first deliveries will be made in late 2025, with the Clubsport Edition set to arrive first and the other trims scheduled to ship strictly after that one.
