Mecum Auctions has sold the first production example of the new Acura NSX Type S to Hendrick Automotive Group founder Rick Hendrick this weekend. The proceeds to the amount of $1,100,000 USD will be donated to charity.
The VIN 001 supercar features a package that reduces its weight by a further 26 kilograms (57 lbs). It includes carbon-fiber engine lid and interior trim, as well as ceramic brakes. A Type S car with a trim like that currently costs around $182,500, meaning that Hendrick paid nearly six times the usual price.
A total of 350 Acura NSX Type S will be made, including 300 for the United States (299 remaining now). Each will utilize a tandem between a twin-turbo V6 and a trio of electric motors, jointly rated at 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW).
