Alfa Romeo Tonale lineup gets revised for 2026

Alfa Romeo has once again refreshed its Tonale SUV offerings since the original launch in 2022. There are slight aesthetic tweaks, revised trims and new powertrain options for most markets on the list.

The sales won’t start until closer to the end of the year, so let’s take a look at the main updates. Alfa’s trademark radiator grille has been redesigned to remind owners about the iconic 33 Stradale and GT 2000 models. The front bumper has been reworked to shorten the overhang, resulting in a more well-proportioned car. New wheels in 19-inch and 20-inch sizes were added to the catalog.

Good news for customization lovers is that the new Tonale is going to be available with a much wider selection of trim materials and colors. For some reason, Alfa also mentions a rotary knob for the transmission, which was actually added during the last year’s facelift. The company also claims that widened track at both ends made the SUV more stable in turns.

In Europe, the model will continue to be available with a 1.5-liter, mild-hybrid powertrain now rated at 175 PS (173 hp / 129 kW), as opposed to the old version’s 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW). The transmission is of a seven-speed dual-clutch type.

Other options include a 1.6-liter turbo diesel with 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW), a new plug-in hybrid with 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW), and an improved high-end PHEV spec with 270 PS (266 hp / 199 kW). Alfa doesn’t reveal the specific improvements, but since the output is actually 5 horsepower (3 kilowatts) below the pre-facelift version, we suppose this bit of the press release refers to the Euro-7 emission compliance in Europe.

Customers in the United States may no longer be able to buy the 285-PS (281-hp / 210-kW) version – it hasn’t been mentioned anywhere in the announcement. It looks like the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and AWD remains the only options for the U.S. buyers. On the upside, it gets a mild boost from 256 PS (252 hp / 188 kW) to 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW).
