The Zagato AGTZ Twin Tail is a glorified Alpine A110 worth $0.7M

Italian coachbuilder Zagato has announced a rather unusual custom car series. It’s basically a near-stock Alpine A110 with its rear end greatly extended to resemble certain Le Mans racecars. The asking price is a cool €650,000, or $703,000 at the current rates.

The carbon-fiber tail attachment can be easily put on and off, meaning that owners can decide whether to use it or leave it lying in the garage every time they go out. From the stylistic point of view, it resembles a similar detail on the Alpine A220, an endurance racer built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in the late 1960s. It never achieved anything much in endurance racing, though.

Aside from the impressively large rear, the Zagato AGTZ Twin Tail sports other stylistic revisions – a new grille, revised headlights, modified side windows and even a reshaped roof. The 255-PS (252-hp / 188-kW) engine probably stays stock. Zagato doesn’t mention any power upgrades and says that the Twin Tail is envisioned as a Grand Tourer and not a track tool, after all.

Only 19 units will be made. The car will celebrate its live debut at an auto show in Italy this May, and the first example is scheduled to ship in October.
