Video: MTM tests a 1,200-PS Audi R8 on a speedway

German tuning company MTM has unleashed a heavily modified Audi R8 V10 on the autobahn, trying to get it as close to 400 km/h (248 mph) as possible.

As evidenced by MotorOliTV on YouTube, the coupe was far from stock. Dual turbos and other high-end modifications enabled it to produce 1,200 metric horsepower (1,184 hp / 883 kW) and 1,300 Nm (959 lb-ft) of torque. The company emphasizes that it had to limit both values electronically to prevent transmission failure.

Tuned like this, the car bridges 100-200 km/h (62-124 mph) in 3.5 seconds and proceeds to breathe from 250 to 300 km/h (155-186 mph) in 7.6 seconds. Much of this crazy acceleration is courtesy of BBS Forged wheels shod in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, KW coilovers in the suspension, and lightweight Recaro Podium seats in the cabin.

In the video above, the coupe manages to hit 353 km/h (219.3 mph) before reaching the electronic limit. With the speedway dark and the traffic rather busy, we suppose it’s for the best. As extreme and brutal as this R8 V10 is, MTM will probably have to find a way to reinforce the transmission further before trying for something like a world record.
