BYD Leopard 5 images leak online ahead of premiere

The Leopard 5 hybrid SUV will officially debut tomorrow, August 16, but CarNewsChina has already gotten its hands on its official unmasked photos.

The car will be introduced under a new sub-brand called Fan Cheng Bao, or Bao for short. It looks obviously inspired by the Land Rover Defender and has intricately sculpted door panels. The dimensions haven’t been revealed yet, but the car will be rather large – around five meters, or 16.4 feet, long.

The Leopard 5 runs on the platform known as BYD DM-o Hybrid. As such, it is expected to produce between 540 and 680 PS (533–671 hp; 397–500 kW, respectively). The standard sprint time will be in the four-second area. As for the battery, its specifications remain to be revealed, but the range with the fuel tank maxed out should amount to an impressive 1,200 km (745 miles).

Only one spy shot has been made of the cabin so far. There is a large infotainment display (at least 16-17 inches of diagonal size) and a mechanical button panel between the seats. The trim looks high-quality, and the equipment list will probably be extensive.

Price estimations fall between 400,000 and 600,000 Chinese Yuan.
