Changan Hunter gets a long-range hybrid version

The next Changan Hunter Hybrid will go on sale in China in several days sporting a revised exterior and packing an improved range-extender (serial) powertrain now rated at 1,031 km (640 miles) of range.

According to AutoHome, buyers can choose from one or two e-motors. Both variants receive their power from a 2.0-liter petrol engine rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW). A battery on board stored enough electricity for 180 km (112 miles) of all-electric range, so firing up the engine isn’t always necessary.

On its domestic market, the truck comes in two wheelbase versions – 3,180 mm and 3,430 mm. You can option it with a single RWD motor rated at 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) or two motors including one on the front axle with 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW). The latter version is faster on the uptake, sprinting 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.9 seconds.

On the outside, the new hybrid spec sports a restyled front end looking similar to Changan’s Uni lineup. The radiator grille, the front bumper and the slim T-shaped headlights are also new.

Inside the cabin, the three-spoke steering wheel and the display ensemble stay unchanged, but the transmission selector now sits on the steering column. This frees up space on the transmission tunnel for a wireless charger pad. The adjustment dial is at its usual place.
