Changan merges a coupe-SUV, a pickup truck and a camper, here’s the result

Chinese automaker Changan gas previewed a concept car named CD701, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2024 under the company’s Qiyuan sub-brand. Originally styled as a coupe-like crossover SUV, it can transform into a truck or a camper when needed.

On the outside, the Qiyuan CD701 (name subject to change) has all the telltale traits of China-made EVs: pull-out door handles, squared wheel arches and a fake grille slab at the front with a light bar between the headlights. It is officially battery-electric, but the details are lacking at the moment.

The rear half of the roof is slanted, resulting in a coupe-SUV look. The tailgate swings open downwards, and the slanted roof panel at the back can be pushed further upwards, revealing a spacious trunk area not unlike a truck bed.

The rear bench seat has a reclining back that lets it be turned into a comfortable bed for two. It helps that there are no glass windows or hard partitions directly behind the seat. Removing the headrest from the front passenger seat and putting it next to the second-row pillow will complete the transformation of the rear bench into a cozy bed.

The car is 5,000 mm long, 1,970 mm wide and 1,630 mm tall with 3,100 mm of wheelbase. The entire dashboard is devoid of physical controls and only houses a single large touchscreen in the middle. Knowing Changan, it will likely ship the CD701 with all kinds of cutting-edge tech on board.
