Omoda C5 Hybrid hits the streets in China

Chery has proceeded with the road testing stage of its upcoming Omoda C5 model. Per AutoHome, the SUV that came out on the streets the other day had a charging port in its radiator grille – a clear indication of a hybrid powertrain.

It still seems like the camera-wielding spies nabbed an example still far removed from mass production. The charging port was cut into the grille in a very rough manner, and a big red button was added to the cabin by the test crew – likely an emergency kill switch for the electric battery.

Other than that, the car looked indistinguishable from its petrol version (in the video below). As such, it must have been an early test mule. We should be able to see more change later on.

While the specs are still unannounced, the most likely candidate for the powertrain is the 1.5-liter turbo engine powering the current Chery Tiggo 7 Plus hybrid spec. Accompanied by a single electric motor, it drives the wheels with a combined 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) and 510 Nm (376 lb-ft) of torque.
