Seeing Red: Is Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye really coming?

First rumors that Dodge would be issuing an 808-PS Redeye version of the Charger appeared in 2019. A couple days ago, the company suddenly confirmed these rumors. Or did it?

Dodge made a social media post a few days ago, mentioning a ‘Charger Redeye’ and attaching a photo of the regular Hellcat to it. The entry was soon deleted as erroneous, but numerous people are now convinced that the Redeye super-saloon might go on sale as early as this summer.

If true, then it will most likely get the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine as the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye coupe. The unit produces 808 PS (797 hp, or 603 kW) along with 959 Nm (707 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission will likely drive the rear wheels.

The Charger range is currently topped by the SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition, which is featured in our gallery and the video here. It packs a V8 capable of 727 PS (717 hp), thus surpassing the regular Hellcat by 10 PS (10 hp), and hits 881 Nm (650 pound-feet) of maximum torque.

Dodge used to unveil special editions of its Charger and Challenger models – such as the Hellcat Widebody and the Charger Scat Pack – at various summertime shows, such as the Woodward Dream Cruise and the What’s New press event in Michigan, USA. Perhaps we will be seeing the Charger Redeye at one of those, who knows.

Car spotters in the USA have repeatedly sighted an odd Charger Widebody-like vehicle cruising the streets lacking any specific signs or badges. Maybe it was the Redeye test mule.
