One-owner Ferrari F40 goes for nearly €2 million

A 32-year-old Ferrari F40 that never changed hands just fetched €1,840,000 at an auction in Belgium, considerably surpassing the estimates of €1 – €1.5 million.

Throughout its life, the car had only covered 1,790 km (1,112 miles), and had been kept in a garage for the past 29 years. As such, it is reportedly in a perfect condition with all OEM tools, service manuals and documents still present.

The owner was a big Italian sports car fan who had been buying new Ferraris since the 1970s. When he purchased this F40, he asked the manufacturer for an air conditioner and openable side windows (the stock trim had fixed glass on the doors, with just a small windowlet that you could open).

The F40 was produced in 1987 through 1992, becoming the company’s last model produced while its founder, Enzo Ferrari, was still alive. It came with a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated between 478 PS (471 hp / 352 kW) and 484 PS (477 hp / 356 kW), depending on the market. The engine took it to a record-high speed of 321 km/h (199.5 miles per hour). A total of 1,315 units was built.
