Tuning voiture
Drag race enthusiasts know that the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 – while a perfectly fine muscle car – is still no match to its superior model, the GT500. But what happens if you tune it just right? Hennessey Performance decided to find out.
If you know the Texan performance car builder, you know just what kind of projects it tackles. “Over-the-top” would be one way to describe it. The GT350 left the garage fitted with a Whipple supercharger and a slew of other non-wallet-friendly aftermarket upgrades. Its brake horsepower rating skyrocketed to around 900 hp (670 kilowatts), signaling that the transmission was hit with 1,000+ hp (745+ kW).
To try and even things out a bit, the GT500 also received a fair boost. New camshafts and ECU tweaks helped it deliver 800 hp (600 kW) to the wheels.
The race took place on the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania, USA. Watch the video to find out which one of the two Shelbys proved angrier than the other.
