Next-gen Honda City debuts with new design, 3-cyl. turbo engine

The latest generation of the Honda City compact sedan/saloon has been around since 2013 – a long time without an update. This is going to change soon, though, as the new generation is right around the corner.

The newcomer uses the Honda Fit architecture and primarily targets the developing markets of Southeastern Asia. However, while the older generation pretty much copied the Fit in terms of looks, the new one has its own distinct styling. The front end looks inspired by the tenth-gen Accord, the brake lights and DRLs are LED-based, the radiator grille is chrome-coated, and the wheels measure 15 inches across.

Along with the 2020 City, Honda has announced a ‘warmed-up’ version thereof, called the RS. This one has black body accents, larger wheels, and red cabin highlights.

The entire Honda City range will ship with only one available engine: a turbocharged three-cylinder mill rated at 122 hp (91 kW) and 173 Nm (128 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission with a paddle shifter will deliver the power to the wheels.

The sedan will first launch in Thailand in early 2020, priced from 579,500 Thai Baht (19,150 USD). Other regions, notably including India, will get it later.
