IM Motors launches the long-anticipated LS8

The new IM LS8 hybrid crossover arrives in China with a steering wheel severed from the wheels and costs 250,000 CNY before options. The first deliveries have already started, with IM Motors reporting over 8,000 verified orders within the first hour.

The SUV is 5,085 mm (200.2 inches) long and has 3,060 mm (120.5 inches) of wheelbase length. The interior can be specced with five or six seats. A LiDAR-based ADAS package, a steer-by-wire steering wheel and rear-wheel steering are all listed under standard features.

As a range-extender hybrid, the LS8 relies on a 1.5-liter engine to provide power for its dual e-motors. Their combined output amounts to 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW), letting the SUV go on for 430 kilometers (267 miles) on electricity alone using the optional 66-kWh battery pack. Downgrade to a cheaper 52-kWh pack, and you’ll still have 268 kilometers (166 miles) at your disposal.

Now that it’s been released, the IM LS8 will have to stave off some stiff competition in China, including from such other ambitious newcomers as the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 and the Leapmotor D19.
