Multiple owners of the part-electric Jeep Wrangler have filed complaints in the United States after the company rolled out an over-the-air software update, Road&Track reports quoting websites and forum links. Some users claim they lost control of their car completely and in a dangerous situation.
The software refresh was aimed at improving the Uconnect infotainment experience in all Wrangler 4xe SUVs. According to the affected owners, it broke certain in-car features and – in isolated cases – even forced the SUV to stop on a highway, something that shouldn’t be acceptable.
While details are still scarce, the reports suggest that the update package was either faulty or incomplete. Some drivers claimed it was also installed automatically in a silent fashion, which is odd because the Uconnect is supposed to ask for a permission first. In fact, Jeep has already responded asking all owners to skip installing the update. Some time later, the company pushed a patch to address the issue. The details of the incident remain unknown.
