Amphibious Jetour Zongheng G700 debuts in China

Jetour has opened domestic preorders for the G700, a full-size SUV coming to the market from its premium sub-brand Zongheng. Unlike some overhyped cybernetic trucks, it is said to be capable of wading deep water for 40 minutes straight without issue.

The vehicle measures 5,198 x 2,050 x 1,956 mm (203 x 80 x 76.4 inches) large and can be adjusted for up to 320 mm (12.5 inches) of ground clearance. The manufacturer claims it can traverse water up to 970 mm (37.9 inches) high moving at 8 km/h (5 mph) thanks to a thoroughly insulated body. In this sense, the Zongheng G700 resembles the much bigger and pricier Yangwang U8 from BYD.

Making this possible is a 2.0-liter engine and two electric motors driving all four wheels. Their combined output comes to 761 PS (750 hp / 560 kW) and 795 Nm (586 lb-ft) of torque, enabling the bulky off-roader to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 4.6 seconds.

Once fully charged and fueled, it can cover up to 1,400 km (870 miles) before a visit to a gas station becomes necessary. Even with the battery discharged, Jetour claims it still consumes as little as 1.39 liters of gas per 100 kilometers. That’s about 203 miles per British gallon, or 169 miles per the U.S. gallon.

One of the biggest interior highlights is a lack of any kind of traditional dashboard. It is fully replaced with a very slim, but wide 35.4-inch display running along the lower rim of the windshield. The infotainment system uses its own 15.6-inch display, and the rear seat occupants get a dedicated 17.3-inch screen.

The general assumption is that Jetour will produce multiple specialized Zongheng G700 editions for different customers. They haven’t been announced yet, but autohome.cn says the company has demonstrated plenty of accessories and upgrades for its off-road lineup at various shows. Before the announcement, a pre-production example of the G700 even took part in one China’s national rally raids.
