Range Rover Electric first official teaser vid goes online

Land Rover has shared some images and the first video of its upcoming Range Rover EV. The company claims that the battery SUV will offer a new level of comfort while retaining the off-road chops of the petrol version. Pre-orders are already running, but the premiere date is still pending.

The footage only focuses on a few design elements and doesn’t allow making any definite conclusions. Still, it already seems clear that Land Rover is playing safe here: everything looks more or less like it always did. The faux grille at the front, the lights at the back and the telltale vertical side trims – we have seen it all before. The wheels are new, though, as is the charging port, and maybe that’s going to be it.

The automaker is already testing its assorted prototypes in a variety of climate and road conditions. It is assumed that the final production version of the car will stay on par with range-topping V8s in terms of power and torque and will be able to wade water up to 850 mm (33.2 inches) high.

Like other JLR models, the Range Rover Electric will be running on the MLA platform supporting an 800V power architecture and rapid charging. It will go into production at the same factory in Solihull, England as its hybrid counterparts. Land Rover emphasizes that both the motors and the battery cells for the Electric version are made in-house.
