Chinese automaker Leapmotor has unveiled all important characteristics of its new D19 crossover. The flagship will be available as a range-extender hybrid and a battery-electric vehicle, both coming with an oxygen generation system for the interior (the world’s first, the company claims).
This is intriguing, but we still have to interior photos to show you. Let’s take a look at the numbers in the meantime. The EV packs two e-motors jointly rated at 724 PS (714 hp / 533 kW) and a 115-kWh battery pack from CATL. Once fully charged, it can travel up to 720 km (447 miles) per the current Chinese range standard.
The battery combines conventional LFP cells with new “triple-lithium” power elements for efficiency. This lets the SUV sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in three seconds flat. Charging replenishes 350 km (217 miles) of range in just 15 minutes thanks to a 1000V architecture.
In turn, the hybrid uses two motors tuned down to 536 PS (529 hp / 394 kW) for efficiency. An unspecified petrol engine on board acts purely as a power generator for an 80-kWh battery pack. The all-electric range amounts to 500 km (310 miles), and charging is only marginally slower due to an 800V architecture used.
On the digital side of things, the Leapmotor D19 comes equipped with dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips giving it up to 1,280 TOPS of raw processing power. One of the chips powers the infotainment system while the other one serves the ADAS package. The oxygen system mentioned above can produce up to 8 liters of fresh air per minute, the company claims.
True to its flagship status, the D19 is over 5.2 meters (17 feet) long with 3.1 meters (121 inches) between the axles. Customers can choose from five exterior finishes and several two-tone combos. Or, rather, they will get the choice when the SUV goes on sale: the date and all pricing remain to be announced.
