This Ligier JS P4 prototype racer used to belong to Zack Brown, the head of McLaren’s F1 racing team, and is now for sale in the UK with as little as 18 motor-hours behind its back. The car is one-off, finished in matte carbon, not street-legal, and has been bid to £40,000 so far.
Regulations permit the use of the JS P4 model in European endurance races. To that end, it packs a 3.7-liter Ford V6 rated at roughly 330 hp (246 kW), but the seller claims a boost to 650 hp (485 kW) is available. A Quaife six-speed transmission drives the wheels through a Torsen differential.
The acceleration capabilities of the car remain undisclosed, but its carbon monocoque and bodywork let it weigh as little as 940 kg (2,072 lbs), so dynamic performance is not a concern.
Aside from mandatory equipment, such as fuel tank protection, the car has some options installed on it, including an AC and windshield heating. A removable front passenger’s seat is bundled with the purchase.
Ligier sold the prototype racer in new condition for €165,000 last fall, having given it a bit of a technical brush-up. The model is being marketed as an affordable entry ticket to the big professional motorsports game.
