JDM-crazy Mazda RX-7 up for grabs in the USA

It’s no secret that tuned rides are only really valuable to their owners, while the others tend to shy away from them and definitely don’t feel like sponsoring someone else’s unhinged build. Case in point: this theoretically awesome Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 boosted by 150 hp and outfitted for sports. It’s a cool car on paper, but the bidding on Cars & Bids has been stalling at $10,600 with five hours left on the clock.

The first thing that catches the eye is, beyond doubt, an over-the-top custom body kit. It completely transforms the rear end, flares the fenders and adds a towering spoiler to the rear. With air suspension, Zauber wheels and LED headlights, the RX-7 looks like a JDM fan’s dream car from two decades ago. It should also drive nicely thanks to a single large turbocharger working in place of the OEM twin-turbo setup. The tuned rotary engine outputs a solid 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW), per the listing.

If we had to guess, we’d say it’s the interior that keeps this Mazda from selling for a nice sum. Trimmed with chap red plastic, it has a steering wheel on the right-hand side and a ludicrously gaudy, spaceship-style instrument cluster. Note that, while most of the gauge wells are occupied, some are black and vacant – there are only so many parameters to track in a car, after all. Oh, and do note the plush aftermarket seats – surely a bit of extra comfort is worth the tradeoff of the doors no longer completely closing, right? Right?

Check out the short video for a taste of the original RX-7.
