Mercedes confirms plans to ditch A-Series, B-Series by 2025

In its latest development strategy, Mercedes-Benz has re-stated its commitment to shrink its compact car offer by more than a half. Only seven out of three compact lineups will stay, while the A-Class hatchback and the B-Class compact van will go.

Before taking the axe to them, however, the automaker will produce another planned facelift. This was evident from all the test vehicles running around in camo, but it is still good to know for sure.

The demise of the A and B classes leaves us the CLA lineup including an estate and a coupe-like sedan, the GLA and the GLB. The latter two will migrate to the latest MMA chassis in their next generation to take advantage of its native hybrid and all-electric drivetrain support.

However, it is now official that the first entry in the MMA range will be a sedan with an elongated hood and a sloping roof. It will debut in 2024, the automaker says.
