Mercedes-Benz announces CLA Shooting Brake

Mercedes-Benz expanded the third-generation CLA lineup with a sedan in March this year and has now followed up with a sporty wagon called the Shooting Brake. Dealerships won’t take delivery of it until the next spring, so let’s take a look at it while we wait.

The exterior is mostly in line with everything else Mercedes has released lately. There is a revised rear end with new taillights and a slightly taller sunroof that adds 26 mm (1 inch) of headspace to the rear row, but that’s about it. The trunk maxes out at 1,290 liters (45.56 cubic feet), making this CLA the most viable version for long road trips with family. A small frunk at the front end fits another 101 liters (3.57 cubic feet). The dimensions are 4,723 x 1,855 x 1,469 millimeters with 2,790 mm between the axles. That’s 184.5 x 72.5 x 57.4 inches with 109 inches of wheelbase.

The powertrain options are the same as the sedan’s. You can go for a single electric motor rated at 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and 335 Nm (247 lb-ft) or pay a premium for two and get 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) alongside 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque. Both variants cannot go faster than 210 km/h (130 mph), but while the former sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, the latter manages the same in 5.

An 85-kWh battery pack delivers 761 or 730 km (473 or 453 miles) of WLTP-rated driving range per charge depending on the number of motors. Charging from a fast enough outlet for 10 minutes replenishes enough power for 310 km (192 miles) of driving.

Depending on the trim level, the dashboard can be outfitted with up to three displays sized from 10.25 to 14 inches large. The roof can be upgraded with a transparent section said to insulate heat and filter the harmful UV part of the light spectrum. Customers can also request it with a pattern made of 158 tri-point starts or with an electrochromic layer for adjustable opacity. More modern Mercedes vanity can be found inside the faux grille at the front: there are as many as 142 LEDs.

Mild-hybrid CLA Shooting Brake variants may be added to the lineup in 2026, but these have only been confirmed for the CLA sedan so far. This new mild-hybrid powertrain is built around a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and can drive two or four wheels, Mercedes says. All other details are unknown at this time.
