Brabus treats America to a 1,000-PS, clownshoe-shaped Mercedes-AMG

In its Brabus rendition, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 roadster tries on a Shooting Brake body style and sprints to highway speed in 2.6 seconds.

Known as the Brabus Rocket GTS, it is available in the States starting from eye-watering $1.4 million. The exterior of the car resembles the famous BMW Z3 nicknamed Clownshoe for its squat, blobby exterior. The entire bodywork is new, including the roof, and made from a particularly gorgeous-looking dark green carbon fiber. Five-spoke aftermarket wheels shod in performance tires complement the new exterior nicely.

Power comes from a hybrid system centered on a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8. It receives assistance from electric motors, developing 1,000 PS (986 hp / 735 kW) and up to 1,620 Nm (1,195 lb-ft) of torque.

Equipped like this, the Rocket snaps off the line and reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.6 seconds. It then proceeds to double that acceleration in 9.5 seconds and triple it in 23.6 seconds. The top speed lies at 317 km/h (197 mph) – quite impressive for what was originally envisioned as a roadster.

The interior comes wrapped in bluish-green leather and synthetic suede with more carbon-fiber accents all around, Brabus badges and special edition plaques.

The car depicted here is currently listed for U.S. $1,387,081.
