Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss set to fetch several million euros

An auction will be held in Paris on January 31 – February 8, 2023 dedicated to an ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The speedster was designed in 2010 to commemorate Stirling Moss’s victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia race. Only 75 was made in total, and the pristine condition of this example could end up costing the buyer €3–4 million.

If the forecasts are true, the car would become the most expensive SLR in history. By producing the SLR McLaren speedster series, both companies said farewell to the extreme road-going car. Back in its era, it was the coolest Mercedes-Benz money could buy for the roads.

Unlike all other SLRs of the time, this modification lacked any kind of roof or windshield, instead coming with two helmets as part of standard equipment. The 5.5-liter V8 capable of 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW) was borrowed from the SLR McLaren 722. The use of carbon fiber all around made the body lighter, enabling a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

The prices at launch began from €750,000, and only those who already owned a regular SLR model were allowed to buy a Stirling Moss Edition. The example on sale was bought for collection purposes and has not changed hands since then. It has fewer than 150 km (93 miles) on the odometer.
