MG previews the MG7, its new flagship

Chinese automaker MG has shared quality shots of its upcoming flagship car, the MG7. The fairly large fastback will debut on August 17 and go on sale only in China.

The model will lay the foundation for the Black Label lineup of premium vehicles. With a slanted roof, long rear overhang, sculpted wheel arches and frameless doors, it looks refreshingly modern.

The images here depict the top trim spec called 405 VTGI Trophy, which lacks body chrome and has a four-pipe exhaust in the back. A retractable rear spoiler can also be seen.

MG has not revealed any technical specifications yet. CarNewsChina claims the car was registered as being 4,884 mm long, 1,889 mm wide and 1,447 mm tall. Allegedly, customers will have only two powertrains to choose between at first. One of these is a 1.5-liter engine with 185 PS (182 hp / 136 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque in tandem with a seven-speed DCT. The other one is a 2.0-liter mill partnered up with a nine-speed A/T for 257 PS (253 hp / 189 kW) and 405 Nm (299 lb-ft). A plug-in hybrid version is expected to join the lineup in mid-2023.
