MINI previews the Aceman, its next-gen EV concept

The MINI Aceman is primarily designed to give you an idea of what the marque’s other electric vehicles will look like going forward, but it will also be distilled into a production car when the next generation comes about.

The Aceman will be marketed one notch below the Countryman SUV and will take advantage of cutting-edge infotainment technology. It will also offer a wide selection of eco-friendly textile trims without any natural leather.

The car is 4,050 mm (158.2 inches) long, 1,990 mm (77.7 inches) wide and 1,590 mm (62.1 inches) tall with a solid octagonal fake grille at the front. The manufacturer calls the new design philosophy Charismatic Simplicity. This principle is reflected in novel headlights and edgy wheel arches with 20-inch wheels inside. The grille is illuminated and has animated LED inserts, as do the headlights. The car greets you with more projected light as soon as you open the door.

A closer look at the exterior confirms that there is not a single chrome part – another sign that Mini is devoted to the idea of environmental preservation. The lack of chrome is compensated by an abundance of vivid accents, such as a green roof.

The cabin is rather minimalistic and largely trimmed with cloth. The steering wheel comes wrapped in velour concealing touch-based controls. The whole dash panel resembles a sound bar, and you can use it and the door panels to project images onto.

There is still only one display, and a round one at that, with hardware switches below. The infotainment suite runs on a modern Android-based operating system. You can choose from three modes of data presentation called Personal, Pop-Up and Vivid.

According to MINI, the full reveal will take place at the Gamescom-2022 in Cologne, Germany. Availability dates and technical specifications are unknown at this point.
