The Mitsubishi ASX crossover has been around since 2010, getting multiple updates in the meantime but never quite big enough to count as a new generation. This changes now with the introduction of an all-new ASX… which is a complete clone of the 2019 Renault Captur.
If you wanted it to be different, you’ll probably need to curb your expectations regarding the whole brand. Mitsubishi announced a while ago that it would no longer introduce any new cars in Europe, instead settling for offering rebadged Renaults there. Whether you like it or not, this also means that the entire bodywork and even the DRLs are identical to those of the Captur. Hey, even the wheels are the same! Why bother, right?
The main difference in the cabin, not unexpectedly at this point, is the Mistubishi logo on the hub of the steering wheel. Like the Captur, the new ASX is available with 7- and 10-inch digital dashboard options as well as infotainment system screens either 7 or just a bit over 9 inches large.
All-wheel drive is not on the list. The base spec is a turbo three-pot with 91 PS (90 hp / 67 kW). Following it are two four-cylinder mild hybrids rated at 140 and 158 PS (138 and 156 hp; 103 and 116 kW, respectively). Finally, there is an HEV and a PHEV option as well, rated at 145 and 160 PS (143 and 158 hp; 107 and 118 kW). Both are based on the same 1.6-liter engine assisted by a single electric motor.
The sales will begin in March 2023.
