Donald Trump vows to scrap the EV “mandate”

The newly elected President of the United States feels that a 180-degree turn from subsidizing electric cars will do the country good.

Donald Trump has already signed multiple laws to counteract the EV benefits and incentives introduced during President Biden’s term. For one, he paused all funding of the nationwide charging network program. For another, he scrapped the government’s program on ensuring a 50/50 balance between EVs and traditional ICE cars by the beginning of the next decade.

One of the more worrying declarations made by Trump concerned the cancellation of the $7,500 tax subsidy on new EVs. If it gets passed, many automakers will find themselves struggling for profit in the EV segment. No decision has been reached so far, though.
