Nio launches a futuristic wagon awash with neon

Chinese automaker Nio is an official partner of Disney, and its latest creation is dedicated to the movie Tron: Ares starring Jared Leto that just premiered in the country. Only 555 ET5T wagons will be made.

The car sports a black exterior with custom graphics (a wrap, to be specific), 20-inch wheels, vivid orange brake calipers and roof rails. The infotainment system inside boasts a movie-themed UI and can sync with the ambient lighting, “taking you into a cybernetic universe in milliseconds,” according to Nio. Certain options listed as premium for the standard Nio ET5T are included free of charge here.

Things stay stock under the hood. The car is all-electric with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) heading to its front axle and 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW) routed to the back. A 100-kWh battery enables a 4-second sprint and up to 710 km (441 miles) of CLTC-rated range per charge. This battery pack is now considered standard for many Nio EVs now that the old 75-kWh pack has been discontinued. More importantly, the pricing stays the same for all models that the company upgraded to 100 kWh.

Prices for the special edition begin from 316,000 Chinese Yuan – just 18,000 Yuan higher than the standard spec. According to CnEVPost, the family car has been Nio’s single best-performing model on the market for the past four months, selling 5,048 units in September alone and coming ahead of the SUV-shaped Nio ES6.
