The original Nissan Magnite went into production in India in October 2020, and pre-orders have been running in India and Indonesia since December. It is now official that the mini-CUV will eventually be shipped to a number of other countries.
The plan for 2021 includes Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, SAR, Mauritius, and the Seychelles. These countries will all receive their cars from India, but Nissan considers launching a second production site if successful.
The Magnite had originally been intended for sale under the Datsun brand, which is why it looks like the facelifted redi-GO model. However, Nissan ditched the Datsun name due to poor sales. The Magnite comes based on the CMF-A platform also found in the redi-GO, the Renault Kwid, and the Renault Triber. It is 3,994 mm (13.1 feet) long with 2,500 mm (8.2 feet) separating the axles.
The Indian spec offers a choice between two 1.0-liter engines: a naturally aspirated one with 72 PS (71 hp / 53 kW) and a turbocharged one with 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW). The transmission is manual by default, but you could opt for an X-Tronic CVT with the turbo.
Customers in India will have access to as many as four trim levels, while Indonesia will make do with only two upmarket trims. The base spec lists LED anti-fog lamps, an eight-inch touch-enabled display, and Hill Climb Assist. Paying extra unlocks cruise control, all-around view cameras, ambient lighting, and a wireless charger. The top trim can be turbocharged only.
Prices in Indonesia vary between 208.8 and 238.8 million Rupees.
