Nissan unveils the next Micra

The next-generation Nissan Micra EV is slated to reach the showrooms in Europe in late 2025.

The car is subcompact at under 4 meters (156 inches) long with 2.54 meters (99.2 inches) of wheelbase and 326 liters (11.5 cubic feet) of trunk space. It has five doors in this generation – no other options – and rides on 18-inch wheels. You can choose from three available wheel designs and 14 exterior colors, plus an optional contrast roof in black or grey.

Novelty inside boils down to seats with enhanced lumbar support, a squared-off steering wheel and a large display unit composed of two 10.1-inch screens.

In its most affordable guise, the 2026 Nissan Micra commands 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft). A 40-kWh battery pack lets it cover up to 308 km (191 miles) on a charge. A more expensive version has 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque, and covers 408 km (253 miles) per charge thanks to a larger 52-kWh battery. Both are 2WD.

Charging the smaller battery is possible from sources rated up to 80kW, while the bigger one takes up to 100kW. Both are enough to get the charge level from 15 to 80 percent in half an hour. A heat pump for preheating the battery in cold weather is now included as standard.

Interestingly, electrification hasn’t affected the Micra too much in terms of weight. The new generation tips the scales at just 1,524 kilograms (3,360 pounds) – a minor bump over the predecessor’s 1,400 kilos (3,086 lbs). It also benefits from independent suspension, so handling should be responsible enough.
