Nissan unwraps the 3rd-gen Qashqai/Rogue Sport

The Japanese automotive corporation is in some dire straits now, so much will depend on whether its newly revealed Qashqai SUV manages to become popular among buyers.

The compact crossover SUV also known in the United States as the Nissan Rogue Sport gains aggressive styling cues along with new LED Matrix headlights and large 20-inch wheels. The cabin becomes roomier than ever, and trimming materials seem to be better across the board. The front seats support massage functions, and there is a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. The infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play and comes with a 9-inch touch-enabled display, but you can opt for a larger 10.8-inch display.

Powertrains start with a mild-hybrid 1.3L turbo version rated at 138 PS (136 hp / 101 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque. Another spec uses the same engine in a more boosted form capable of 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. The third and final spec rocks an e-Power range extender system based on a 1.5L gasoline engine rated at 187 PS (184 hp / 138 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. Note that the values supplied are not directly relevant, because a range extender is a hybrid vehicle that uses its combustion engine exclusively to generate power for the main electric motor.

Transmission choices are limited to six-speed manual and CVT, and you can opt for AWD if FWD is not enough.

Sales in Europe will start later this year, and availability in the USA will be announced later.
