Famous comedian’s Porsche 911 turns a big profit on resale

RUF Automobiles has spent three years perfecting this air-cooled Porsche 911S build for Jerry Seinfeld. The popular actor and comedian paid over €250,000 for it, proceeded to drive it for 15 years, then sold it in the United States for $657,000.

Why the insane price? Well, traditional non-turbo, air-cooled Porsches are still highly popular these days, especially as restomods. It could be further argued that few know how to build a restomod better than RUF does. The example shown here packs a 3.4-liter flat-six with separate throttle bodies, modern electronic injection and a performance-focused exhaust system. A six-speed manual transmission with revised gear ratios sends the torque to the rear wheels.

It’s not entirely clear how much power the mill outputs, but some of the best 911S models produced around 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW). This one should be close.

Never ones to tune the powertrain and call it a day, RUF also reinforced the chassis, flared the fenders and installed new Fuchs-style wheels into the arches. A decision was made not to use a body kit, and that’s something we can certainly get behind considering how beautiful the car is on its own.

Interior upgrades included Pepita textile on the seats, lightweight door cards, RUF instruments and a rear bench seat removal. Seinfeld probably wasn’t planning on taking this 911S to track days, because he never asked for a roll cage.
