Porsche unveils a 911 celebrating the legendary Carrera Panamericana

The Latin American office of Porsche has produced a one-off 911 Carrera Panamericana Special. The convertible pays homage to the iconic Mexican rally of the same name, which was considered the most challenging of all in its time seven decades ago. Not only did the 911 win it, it also managed to do so with a tiny 1.5-liter engine under the hood.

The design team made every effort to liken the Cabrio to its historical source of inspiration in terms of design. The car is unique and will be auctioned off next year.

Underpinning the project is a modern 911 Carrera S chassis. Homage to the original extends as far as the navy-blue exterior, the number 11 on the sides, and white hood accents. The soft top comes from a 718 Spyder, because the team was unable to find the necessary shade of off-white in the 911 catalog.

The interior comes wrapped in generous amounts of white leather with an image of a racing helmet adorning the headrests. LEDs built into the doors project the number 11 onto the asphalt next to a Panamericana logo.
