Sylvia Dos Santos, Naming Manager of the Renault Brand, said in an interview that the marque’s next crossover SUV would be named Kardian.
She explained some of the more obscure references hidden in the name and said that the model would first be released in Latin America, with other markets set to follow later.
Among other things, Renault believes that the name ‘Kardian’ evokes associations with speed, agility and strength. It also fulfills the marque’s unspoken requirement of starting with the letter ‘K’, like all of its other recent SUVs (Koleos, Kaptur, Kadjar etc.).
Dos Santos added that English has the word ‘guardian’, which sounds similar and is supposed to convey the idea of the Kardian being powerful and safe to drive.
Little is known about the car itself, aside from the fact that it is rather compact and designed for urban use. At the moment, Renault’s latest crossover utility vehicle on the list is the coupe-like Arkana for Europe. You will find it in the gallery and the video here.
