Ready, Set, and Going: Skoda launches the Superb iV hybrid into production

Skoda has started the mass production of its first hybrid car ever, the Superb iV, near the village of Kvasiny, Czech Republic.

The Czech automaker has invested around €12,000,000 into the modernization of its factory. The goal was to enable the production of the entire Superb vehicle range – both hybrids and ICE-powered cars – on the same assembly line. New machinery and equipment was installed, and quality control checkpoints were upgraded to enable proper testing of hybrid powertrains.

The Skoda Superb iV comes powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a single electric motor. The resulting output amounts to 218 hp (163 kW), and the car offers 56 kilometers (35 miles) of electric range. Switch to hybrid, and you can cover up to 930 km (578 mi) once fully fueled/charged.

Sales launch is expected next year.
