Colin McRae’s Subaru Impreza found in a barn, sold for $360k

A Subaru Impreza once driven by famous rally driver Colin McRae has been discovered sitting in a barn for a decade, its owner apparently oblivious to its background.

It was one out of 63 vehicles that the Prodrive team purchased from Subaru to participate in the World Rally Championship. Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz Sr. first manned it in 1994, ending up with multiple WRC victories and the second place in the overall ranking by manufacturer. A quarter of a century ago, the car was decommissioned and sold into private hands.

It then proceeded to change ownership two more times, and its last buyer had no idea it was a rally car. For about 10 years, the Impreza had sat abandoned in a barn in Victoria State, Australia, until specialists pointed out that it held special value.

The selling price amounted to $360,000, surpassing even some used Ferraris. No restoration attempt was made – the paint and the parts remained original. The buyer preferred to stay anonymous.
