Stronger than ever, Spyker C8 Preliator makes a comeback

As the rumors predicted, the revived Spyker brand will be attending the Monterey Car Week in August with a new supercar. It’s still called the C8 Preliator like its predecessor from the same show a decade ago (see video), but the internals are new and exciting.

The resurrected company took to its social media to disclose certain engine specifications. As you may remember, the original Preliator relied on a 4.2-liter Audi V8 and a supercharger to get 525 PS (518 hp / 386 kW). Its successor is coming to us rocking a still-unspecified twin-turbo V8 tuned to a cool 811 PS (800 hp / 596 kW). The automaker stresses that the new powertrain is completely non-electrified.

With this remarkable new engine, the coupe is expected to exceed 350 km/h (217 mph) in a straight line, the company says. There are still no images of its exterior and interior, but we wouldn’t mind the new Preliator inheriting most of its design features from the old one. After all, in an era when most luxury automakers steer away from fiddly touchscreens and towards physical buttons, what can be better than the original Spyker C8 with its gorgeous all-analog cabin?

For those of you who missed it, Spyker was a niche automaker who went bankrupt in 2014 shortly after acquiring the floundering Saab brand from General Motors. It was subsequently revitalized in 2015, only to declare insolvency again in 2021. The company’s former CEO Victor Muller is at the helm again, and is expected to represent the brand when it attends the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during the Monterey event.
