Sub-$9,000 Jiayuan Komi EV hits the market in China

The Jiayuan Komi is an extremely affordable all-electric four-seater for China offering up to 322 kilometers (200 miles) of driving range.

The novelty sports cute round headlamps, a Jeep-style fake grille, not-so-small wheels and side overlays like those found on some crossover SUVs. It comes in at 2,998 mm (117 inches) long, 1,522 mm (59.5 inches) wide and 1,555 mm (60.8 inches) tall with 2,000 mm (78.1 inches) of wheelbase.

The interior seats four people. It is a bit difficult to see on the photos, but the rear row looks like there is only enough legroom for children. The floor is completely level.

Trim-wise, there is an air conditioner, power assist features, and an infotainment system with a 7-inch video display. The dashboard is virtual, and the steering wheel houses dedicated buttons for audio and cruise control features.

Buyers can choose from two electric motors, one rated at 27 PS (27 hp / 20 kW) and the other one at 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW). Their respective peak torques are 90 and 110 Nm (66 and 81 pound-feet). Batteries also come in two flavors: 17.8 and 30 kilowatt-hours. Top speed never exceeds 100 km/h (62 mph), and opting for the largest motor and battery nets you up to 322 km (200 miles) of driving range.

Prices in China range from 56,800 to 67,800 Yuan, which converts into $8,900–$9,600.
