Suzuki Wagon R gets a long-anticipated refresh 5 years in the making

The current-gen Suzuki Wagon R came out half a decade ago and has now finally got around to an update. Let’s see what the Japanese city car landed with in its 2023MY version.

Like before, the subcompact is exactly 3,395 millimeters long, although the front bumper and the radiator grille are both new. Contrary to the latest trends, the exterior has more chrome décor than ever, but stays recognizable on the whole. The sported-up top trim level named Stingray remains unchanged from before, while the middle trim called Custom Z gains a distinct front fascia, complete with an upsized grille and horizontal headlights.

The interior is largely unchanged, too, but buyers of the most affordable version now benefit from extra airbags, AEB, keyless entry and AC. The rear doors now have loops for umbrellas, the 7-inch infotainment system is more up-to-date, and there is a single USB Type-C socket on board.

For engines, customers in Japan can choose between a naturally aspirated mill rated at 49 PS (48 hp / 36 kW), a slightly more powerful hybridized variant of the same engine, and a turbo unit worth 64 PS (63 hp / 47 kW). The latter receives some further assistance from an electric starter-generator.

Domestic sales start later this month.
