Toyota 92C-V Le Mans up for grabs in Luxembourg

Luxembourg-based company Art & Revs is offering a Toyota 92C-V prototype racer for sale. The car participated in three 24 Hours of Le Mans races. Prices are only revealed to interested buyers, but given the background and the condition of the vehicle, several hundred thousand euros seems realistic.

The model designation ‘92C-V’ refers to its year of manufacture (1992), category (Group C), and engine cylinder configuration (3.5-liter V8 TT). It is an improvement over an older prototype named the 90C-V. Three 90C-V racecars took part in the 1990 Le Mans race, but two never made it to the finish line, while the third one came sixth. A year later, Mazda claimed the top of the pedestal with its rotary-engined 787B model, prompting Toyota to return to the Sarthe racetrack.

This particular 92C-V has the chassis number 001 and came fifth in 1992. It then claimed the sixth spot in 1993 and the fourth in 1994. A total of two such vehicles participated in the Le Mans races. The other one has a chassis number 005 and is kept in the company’s museum.

The seller says the engine underwent a general overhaul this year and currently churns out 782 PS (771 hp / 575 kW). Whoever buys the rarity will get a bunch of spare parts for further maintenance.
