Spiegel: Scout brand revival likely postponed until 2028

Back in 2022, Volkswagen announced an ambitious project to bring the well-known and loved Scout vehicle brand back to the streets of North America. The production plans mentioned up to 200,000 vehicles rolling off the assembly lines starting in 2027. Looks like we might have to wait for a bit longer, after all.

According to Spiegel, the company encountered unspecified “technical problems.” The official Scout brand website still promises first deliveries in 2027, but with an added disclaimer that the dates are estimated and liable to change.

Back when it was announced, Scout had plans for two full-size vehicles: a frame-based SUV named Traveler and a pickup truck called Terra. Both were previewed in 2024 as battery-electric, but the company later added a range-extender hybrid option to the list.

Based on a Magna Steyr chassis, the truck measures whopping 5,822 mm (227.4 inches) from head to tail and has 3,774 mm (147.4 inches) of wheelbase. The SUV is 5,281 mm (206.3 inches) long with 3,058 mm (119.5 inches) between the axles. Both are advertised as heavy-duty workhorses capable of covering at least 805 kilometers (500 miles) on a full tank and battery.

No specific prices have been mentioned so far, but the company has reported receiving over 150,000 unpaid preorders.
